Uncomfortable? Probably. Painful? Probably not unless removing it incorrectly.
In the case of a foley catheter, always drain the balloon before removing the catheter. Not doing so could cause some serious damage to the bladder and/or urethra.
Likewise, a strong adhesive on an external catheter could be painful if removed improperly (pulling the skin). If this is a concern, there are “natural” condom catheters with no adhesives, instead, you use a velcro strap to secure it in place.
